Have I mentioned how much I hate mornings? Even mornings when I am leaving on vacation? I tend to go to sleep way too late and then still have way too many things to do and so get up way too early. I mean, when else would I actually set the alarm for 6:30 a.m.? Yes, yes. I know some of you (Di) actually believe that that’s a reasonable time to get up. But I’m not in that crowd. My body yearns for a 9-9:30 a.m. waking hour. And tomorrow (on the first day of being on vacation as opposed to the first day of leaving for vacation), I’m not going to set any alarm clock. I’m just going to wait for my body to feel rested. Because, after all, that’s the whole point of a vacation.
I have some posts that should appear while I’m gone, so keep checking in. And I’ll see you next week!
I hope you have a wonderful time on your vacation. I’ll be in CT through Tuesday, though I may make a day-trip up to Maine.
On Monday, Joan’s birthday, when I called the house to talk to Grandpa – apologizing for Harry Potter preoccupying me during the weekend – he asked me for something strange. When I told him I was going sailing this weekend he wistfully said “Throw a flower in the water for me.” I asked what he was talking about, and he clarified by saying “Just pick a daisy or something.” A strange request.
The next day, he was gone. Not understanding his wish, I followed it anyway. I stopped at the flowerstand near my house and bought a daisy, took it to wind and sea beach, and gave it to the ocean. The ocean took it immediately.
Wind and Sea was Michael’s favorite beach. I scooped up some beach sand to bring to Maine. Since he won’t be coming out to San Diego any more, I thought it would be nice to bring a little bit of his favorite beach to him.
Now I hope the Homeland Security nazis in the airport don’t harass me for trying to smuggle dirt onto the plane.
