Three beautiful things from my past week:
1. The last couple practices of the season are officially in the books
2. Three of the sixth graders on my practice squad also were on the soccer team, and they won the league championship. Their coach invited me to watch their playoff run, so I made it to the semis and finals this week.
3. Our garden has had a central compost heap as long as I’ve gardened there. It used to get tended more vigorously, but since the pandemic, it’s suffered a bit. Periodically, rats have moved in, and we’ve struggled with how to combat that. (The gigantic rat snake that treated it as a snack counter definitely helped.) This summer, it started to come apart and the maintenance manager and I decided we would take it down as our fall cleanup project. By noon on Sunday, we’d hauled off the top layers and the supports and had raked the usable compost into the area that we hope to convert into new plots next year. We will invest in a rotating contained compost bin in the spring, but this is the first big project we’ve done in ages, and it felt good to see the first step accomplished in what will help change the garden moving forward.
How about you? What’s been beautiful in your world lately?
