one-word reviews of the last ten books i started
posted by soe 1:20 am

This week’s Top Ten Tuesday from That Artsy Reader Girl asks us to share one-word reviews of the last ten books we read. I’m going to mix it up slightly and give you the one word I currently most associate with each of the last ten I’ve started (feel free to ask in the comments if you want more detail):

  1. Vanessa Yu’s Magical Paris Tea Shop by Roselle Lim: Adjectives (in progress)
  2. Saint Young Men by Hikaru Nakamura: Deities (in progress)
  3. The Daughter of Sherlock Holmes by Leonard Goldberg: Spin-off
  4. Early Morning Riser by Katherine Heiny: Waiting (in progress)
  5. Yours Cruelly, Elvira by Cassandra Peterson: Celebrities
  6. The One Hundred Years of Lenni and Margot by Marianne Cronin: Tearful
  7. Shelf Respect by Annie Austen: Bibliophilia
  8. A Marvellous Light by Freya Marske: Magic
  9. Light from Uncommon Stars by Ryka Aoki: Doomed
  10. Dial A for Aunties by Jesse Q. Sutanto: Family (in progress)

How about you? What is the word you’d most associate with a book you’re reading or recently finished?

Category: books. There is/are 7 Comments.

Some clever words you have here! I also have The one hundred years of Lenni and Margot, my word for them is enduring.

Happy TTT!

Great list and interesting spin on this week’s prompt. I haven’t read any of these books. But I’m curious to know why you picked Adjectives for Vanessa Yu’s Magical Paris Tea Shop…

Spin-offs can be super interesting!

I am laughing at the font size of your blog. Clearly you aren’t catering to us older folks. Can you stretch out the size of your column so that everything isn’t so tiny?

I thought this was a fun activity though I had a hard time limiting myself to just one word (and sort of failed at it a few times.) One Word Reviews

I had A Marvellous Light on my list this week too, but went for a different word!

@Anne: Sorry. When I have trouble reading websites, I just bump up the font on my browser (Command and plus sign on a Mac; Control and plus (I think) on a pc).

@Rae: I’m listening to Vanessa Yu’s Magical Paris Tea Shop, which may make the problem more obvious than it would be if I were reading it with my eyeballs. But the author has yet to use a noun that she felt couldn’t be improved by hanging at least one and sometimes three descriptors off of. At this point it’s feeling like she was working to a word count and was way below it the first time through.
