the good thing about rats
posted by soe 9:22 am

You have to admit there aren’t too many upsides to having rats in your ceiling. But there is at least one — that you have to tidy the apartment sufficiently to let the landlord and handyman have access to the ceiling in two spots — the living room and the bedroom, where there are boarded-over spots from previous pest-control efforts. (This is one of the perks of renting — rats or termites in your ceiling ultimately are someone else’s problem.)

Rudi leaves for his ski holiday in three hours; let’s see if the work is done before he departs or if I have to try reassembling the bedroom on my own. Either way, I foresee a lot of this weekend being spent going through random bags of things that require shredding.

Three beautiful things from the previous week to follow later in the day…

Actually, that whole renting/someone-else’s-problem thing is only good if the landlord is good. Try living someplace where the landlord (or property manager) does not get the job done and you’ll wish such problems were yours to fix! You are lucky to have a landlord who takes care of problems quickly.

Kare, that’s true, but I’ve never lived someplace where the landlord wasn’t a good, responsible person. I know there are bad ones out there, but I’ve no experience with them.

Rats? Rats?? Thank goodness for three cats!!!

I’m not sure those three cats are all the mouser type.

Posey? Wouldn’t she just note that she’s prettier than the rat and consider the matter concluded?

Jerimiah? Wouldn’t he talk tough about what a manly stud kitty he is, how he could take on 7 rats at once… and then at the first sign of beady eyes run for cover?

Dela? Dela I could see enjoying the hunt.

ejbro, without those three, much sadder would I be.

GK, Della caught a mouse once back in Middletown. And actually the two siblings do a decent job keeping bugs in check, so I have faith that they would be good mousers. Rats, OTOH, are a different story. D.C. rats, which can be as big as a cat to start with, are mean and carry all sorts of diseases. I’d just as soon prefer that they not interact…
