paris, day 1
posted by soe 6:03 pm

Greetings from Paris!

I spent the day in a sleep-deprived state. Whoever came up with the idea of staying up until night-time as a means of combating jet lag must be someone who can sleep before traveling. I was miserable, dozing off anytime I sat down and, possibly, a couple of times while standing or walking. Eventually I convinced Rudi that really I’d be a much more pleasant companion if we could just go to the hotel and lie down for a while…

Otherwise, we wandered a bit, getting to know our Latin Quarter (named for the Romans, not Central Americans). We walked down to the Seine and visited Notre Dame. I ate three crepes and missed being able to find tea at night.

A demain!

You know how I’m going to vote. You know how I’d like you to vote. But ultimately the important thing is that you DO vote.

Gay rights are family rights. Support love and equality. Vote NO on Proposition 8 in California and NO on Ballot Question 1 in Connecticut.

(Video created by the We Are Family Foundation)

And vote YES for change — elect Barack Obama.

a day in the country

My knitting group decided that we wanted to do a fall yarn tour. Back in the spring a number of the knitters spent the day touring local yarn shops and there was some talk of repeating that until Lucy came up with a better idea. We would contact Gretchen, a local farmer who sells her yarn at the Dupont Circle Farmers’ Market, and see if she’d let us come out to her farm.

Lucy dropped Gretchen a line and the three of us worked out details. Gretchen said that Solitude would be at a Loudon County farmers’ market in Leesburg on Saturday morning. Would we like to come to the market to buy some yarn and then join her at the farm afterwards?

Why, yes, yes we would.
