vacationing
posted by soe 5:06 am

I’d like to tell you that I’ve been composing blog entries in my head and just haven’t had time to post them, but that would be a lie.

I have been having fun.

I have been sleeping.

I have been busy.

I’ll write more when I have a chance, but it might not be until I get back to D.C.

Tomorrow Danny and I are going to try to see San Diego’s newest panda cub, Yun Zi. I’d better get some sleep!

greetings from san diego!
posted by soe 1:36 am

I may have forgotten my swimsuit, but my instincts aren’t all bad. I had been in the city less than an hour before I managed to find a local cupcake bakery.

Internet access from my hotel room is free, so expect to hear from me more this weekend…

whirlwind
posted by soe 2:15 am

We’re back home from a day trip to New York City. We had a nice time, although I’d prefer not to do anymore 8:15 a.m. departure-1 a.m. arrival roundtrips. At least with 9+ hours of that being on the bus…

More details tomorrow. G’night!

winter blah cure?
posted by soe 1:41 am

Rudi has a school happy hour/reunion in New York City this weekend, so we’re heading up for the day on Saturday.

Sometimes a change of pace and/or scenery is all that’s needed to combat the blahs, so I’m optimistic that despite getting up crazy early and returning at an ungodly late hour it’ll break me out of my rut. Could be that a whirlwind bus trip is precisely what the doctor ordered…

If not, Ms. Crankypants will be in residence on Sunday. I’ll ask her not to post if she decides to stop by.

collection storage
posted by soe 1:27 am

The grammar question I raised last week elicited a lot of comments, so I thought maybe we’d see what you all have to say on another topic:

Many of you have collections of one sort or another — books, yarn, music, movies, games, art, ephemera, memorabilia, etc. How do you keep them from taking over your space? How do you store and/or display them to their best advantage?

Rudi and I have started seriously considering this question and we’d love to hear how others have dealt with it. Share your thoughts in the comments.

out of practice
posted by soe 2:36 am

After seven years of living in the South, I have grown unaccustomed to driving in the snow.

This is a huge blow to my New England-raised ego.

Clearly D.C. just needs to work on getting more storms so i can practice. (If those storms can arrange to come in on a worknight, so I can have a day off for the aforementioned practice, so much the better…)

The good news is that after tobogganing down my parents’ driveway in my car, the rest of the drive to meet up with my friend BW was relatively calm.
