I stole a movie meme from Craftylilly’s website instead of creating actual content of my own.
Keeping in mind that I don’t watch movies that are heavy on violence or that focus on war (because they are inherently heavy on violence), are there any on my list that you’d suggest I grab from Blockbuster ASAP?

ETA: Dad was right. Easy Rider didn’t deserve to be on the list twice — and wasn’t.The list is misnumbered and I have corrected it.
The Shawshank Redemption is one of my favorite movies – it’s one of the few that both DH and I will stop and watch if it comes on TV.
I also really like Shane, but haven’t seen it in years so couldn’t tell you much beyond that!
Comment by Jenn 10.25.07 @ 6:30 amI recommend Keaton’s The General and Chaplin’s Gold Rush as excellent examples of their talents, Grapes of Wrath because the book is so well written and the movie gives such a great portrayal of the dust bowl and move to California period, and West Side Story and Cabaret because everyone should see classic musicals. I love the way West Side Story begins with a bird’s eye view of NYC while the overture plays. Cabaret gives another side of the Sound of Music pre WWII days. Easy Rider doesn’t merit two listings, but its use of rock is really well done, though it might be too red-neck stereotyped and drug culture for you.
Comment by DOD, 10.25.07 @ 9:55 amThe Sixth Sense is a good show…a little different. Not really scary (I don’t watch scary shows), just a tiny bit scary.
It’s a Wonderful Life is one of my ultimate favorite shows :).
Comment by isela 10.25.07 @ 2:52 pmI would suggest M*A*S*H because it really is more a political commentary than a war movie. It is actually anti-war and was a statement about US involvement in Vietnam. I would recommend A Clockwork Orange but it is very violent. Ditto for Schindler’s List. A Bridge on the River Kwai is a WWII classic. And is low on the violence scale. I would suggest watching African Queen and Treasure of the Sierra Madre, Bogart!!! I shouldn’t need to say more.
