Paula tagged me with a meme:

8 Random Things about Me

The rules
1: Each player states 8 random facts/habits about themselves.
2: People who are tagged write a blog post about their own 8 random things and post these rules.
3: At the end of your post you need to tag 8 people and include their names.
4: Don’t forget to leave them a comment to tell them they’re tagged and to read your blog.

  1. I do not like soggy cereal. Because of this, I’ve eaten my cereal dry since kindergarten.
  2. I have a running dialogue going through my head almost all the time. Rudi says he can tell when I’m writing things I find amusing because I smile as I type. I also hold fights in my head, which I’ve been told is unfair to the other person participating in them.
  3. I once went to a WIC office pretending to be a new single mom to do research for a paper. I once went to the mall pretending to be deaf just to gauge people’s reactions.
  4. I do not like the taste of mint candy, gum, or toothpaste, but I like it paired with chocolate, particularly in my grandmother’s mint sticks and in mint chocolate chip ice cream.
  5. I learned to whistle from listening to the wind blow through the trees at my grandparents’ house.
  6. It wasn’t until college that I could tell my right hand from my left without instinctively having to raise one over my heart as if to recite the Pledge of Allegiance.
  7. I don’t like the taste of alcohol, so don’t drink it.
  8. My senior year of high school, during a visit to the D.C. area, I was approached in a suburban mall by a man who asked if I wanted to star in “adult movies.”

I’m not tagging anyone, but if you’d like to play along, I invite you to do so either on your own blog or in the comments.

I agree on #7. I’ve never gotten that taste.

Re: #6: I have trouble picturing clockwise vs. counterclockwise and have to move my hands in the air. I guess that younger kids who grew up with digital clocks don’t have this problem?

#8 – oh my!!

Like Debby, I have trouble w/ clockwise/counterclockwise and have to move my hands around in the air to figure out which is which.

1. I am crazy for chocolate and I really like peanut butter, but firmly believe the two should not be mixed, that attempts to do so cheapen them both.

2. I talk to my stuffed animals, and trust them completely to keep me safe from all the things that go bump in the night. I can also hear music in my head and thus Dar Williams’s offer in Cool as I Am “I could teach her how I learned to dance when the musics ended” is not required; I have that covered.

3. I eat rabbit for vengeance whenever the rare opportunity presents itself, ever since I was attacked by Toby, the Gometz family’s pet bunny.

4. I still pick my breakfast cereal based on what toy is in the box, and never put milk or other liquids on it, though I do drink a glass of chocolate milk almost every morning.

5. I brush my teeth with my left hand because years ago it was easier to open the toothpaste tube with my right, and this avoided switching hands. I use a fork with my left hand so if I ever were working international espionage, I would not be identified as American based on fork hand-swapping, even though I don’t ever plan to be a spy.

6. My knowledge of history is severely limited due to the lack of emphasis on the story part in formal education, combined with my preference for imaginary universes.

7. I learned that the idea of loving one person exclusively is cruel and unnatural. We’re wired to love many people, though not always in the same way. It is not required to love someone less in order to also love someone else. We all have an unlimited capacity for loving, and it is harmful to try to restrict it. It should not be scary to tell people “I love you” and saying the words often does not make them meaningless if they are said with sincerity.

8. I radiate heat, which isn’t as useful in San Diego as it was in New England winters, but is occasionally appreciated when my friends have cold hands.

Oh My goodness I also have a running dialogue and arguements going through my head.
I just loved all your answers! Thank you for being such a good sport and playing along.
