out of sorts
posted by soe 1:24 am

I’ve been kind of grumpy all weekend. Too much time sulking, not enough time doing. I’ve had a hard time getting out of my head.

And now the week is upon us again.

Yippee.

Does anyone have cheerful things they can tell me in the comments? Good news — yours or someone else’s? Happy music or movies to investigate?

I hope people post some cheerful things – I could use them too.

Two good movies this weekend, of the stupid humor variety, I might add… You, Me and Dupree and Kinky Boots. It was a slow day yesterday…

Let’s see……this morning….in the WEE hours of the morning….(pre-coffee)…I managed to drop a LARGE container of yogurt, which resulted in an EXPLOSION of yogurt…that flew ALL OVER the kitchen, all over me….I don’t think Heidi the cat will EVER go near the frige again!! Try chasing down a yogurt drenched cat…all while it is running and shaking it’s fur to get the yogurt off…..and landing EVERYWHERE!!!! LOL!!!

Now…doesn’t your week sound like it is off to a better start than mine? LOL!!

When I feel down, I look up…hard to feel down when I start looking at the basics that I take for granted….I have a bed to sleep in, food to eat, pets that I am able to afford to feed and take care of, friends and family that care about me!!!

I wish you a GREAT week!!!!!!!! 🙂

Let’s see… I find that DVDs of British mysteries cheer me up, although obviously they contain dark things like murder and such… but there’s lots of tea and pretty clothes and settings, and the bad guys pretty much always get caught at the end!

I’ve been in a similar mood myself. I think I have some sort of reverse SAD– I always get depressed around the hottest, sunniest time of the year.

Anyway, I have a cute/funny story to share… Sunday evening the cat freaked us out by bringing a live cicada into the house to play with. The cicada was making such hideous noises that my girlfriend and I were cowering in the corner of the kitchen, shrieking. At first the dog was frightened as well, but as he watched he started to become curious…

Eventually we managed to shoo the cat and his new toy outside, and the dog followed. When we looked outside a few minutes later, the dog was getting in on the cicada torture! He was having so much fun that he continued batting the half-dead cicada around long after the cat had gotten bored and wandered off somewhere.

This weekend, I finished reading all the books that Fran loaned me. I got through the third in the Mercy Thompson series about a coyote shapeshifting mechanic who keeps getting into the thick of problems around vampires, werewolves, and fae. Mercy is a tough girl, and while she was put though some nasty stuff, it was good to see her come through it all on top once again.

After that I read the short story about Rachel Morgan that was in the Holidays are Hell compilation. It gave the backstory on Rachel as an 18-year-old and showed how she became who she is in the series proper. A fun story.

Then, finally figuring out how to apply an amazon gift certificate to Kindle purchases, I was about to download a trove of good old stuff (yes, a lot of it isn’t to your tastes, I know):
The entire Tarzan series
The entire John Carter of Mars series
Dracula
Frankenstein
Dr. Jeckel and Mr. Hyde
All of Andrew Lang’s colored Fairy Stories books

And then also downloaded the Subtle Knife, by Philip Pullman, the second installment in His Dark Materials, sequel to Golden Compass (The movie followed the book well for many parts, but then edited things together out of order and jumbled up the ending). I like Lyra. She’s got great spunk.

I played some Final Fantasy. They’ve got the Summerbreeze festival going on. This involves a game where you have to clap and cheer for a magical girl – teen idol singer – to help her fight off a monster that wants to bring unhappiness. To help her with her special attacks, you have to dance at the monster when she says, and time it right. Ridiculous. Funny, and fun. The prize is a bathing suit costume for your character, and then there’s other mini games you can play to earn an updated version of the bathing suit that looks exactly the same. A lot of times the mini events are tedious or frustrating. This one was silly, and I approve of silly.

Tomorrow I am on vacation, headed to Indianapolis for GenCon. I’ll probably come back with lots more additions to my gaming addiction.
