final october weekend planning
posted by soe 4:03 am

Today was a jam-packed day that included a half-day in the office, several hours working an expo floor, and a couple hours at an author event/literary bar party. And then I came home to watch the Nats game, or, rather, to completely zonk out during it because my poor introvert brain had used up all of its energy chatting with thousands of strangers. I was definitely awake during the 7th-inning stretch, because we stood up and sang (what, you don’t?), but I do not remember anything after that. I assumed Rudi would have woken me up if we’d won, but I still had to check the score to be sure. I’ve just been dead to the world for the past several hours.

I’m going to write this blog post, wash the supper dishes, and go back to sleep, but this time in bed, rather than curled up under a blanket on the couch.

Here’s what I’m hoping the rest of the weekend includes, after I recharge a little more:

  • Watch the Nationals win the World Series. There are two more games in D.C., which are the exact number we need to wrap this thing up. Obviously that cannot be a coincidence. If it looks like we will clinch on Sunday, Rudi and I will probably head down to the Yards to watch on the jumbotrons they’ve set up in the park. (If it doesn’t, our tv does not require our getting rained on, and we’ll save that experience for another evening.)
  • Cheer on a coworker who is running her first marathon.
  • Do a coffeeneuring bike ride. I don’t know where yet.
  • Procure Baby Shark donuts.
  • Switch out my cold-weather clothing.
  • Finish my shawl. I mean, come on already.
  • Send some mail.
  • Find Halloween lights (and candy to give out). Also give some thought to a costume.
  • Possibly go apple picking. I need to reconnect with Sarah. If not, pick up a pumpkin at the farmers market on Sunday.
  • Do laundry so I have clean sports bras. New volleyball league (with mostly friends from my outdoor team) starts Monday!
  • Read, because it’s the fall Dewey’s Readathon and there are at least three books I’m reading that I could finish.

What’s on your to-do list for this final weekend of October? (Also, how is it nearly November? Wasn’t it just 90 degrees?)

Woolly Bear

It’s been a non-stop sprint for me since last week, so this weekend I’m looking forward to a lot of chill. We started by meeting up with friends for drinks at our local watering hole and then relaxing by watching a couple tv shows we enjoy.

I’m hoping the weekend includes:

  • Knitting three rows. Okay, technically two and a bind-off row.
  • A trip to the library.
  • Harvesting the last (probably) of the tomatoes in the garden.
  • Time outside tomorrow in the sun.
  • Shopping at the farmers market. (Brussels sprouts season has arrived.)
  • Baking.
  • Refilling the tea tins.
  • Doing laundry.
  • Enjoying a pot of tea and a good book while it rains on Sunday.
  • Sleeping in.

How about you? What are you planning for this weekend?

flailing, not failing
posted by soe 8:41 am

I fell asleep trying to figure out how to add a photo from Flickr to a post while on my phone (it’s easy on my laptop) and haven’t had any more luck now that I’m awake.

We could interpret this as failing, but I’ve decided not to. My favorite readalong likes to use as its motto that there’s no failing, only flailing, and that seems appropriate here, too. After all, it didn’t mean I couldn’t write a post, it just means that you’ll get that post tomorrow after I’m home with my laptop. And today’s post has written itself!

four in the morning, crapped out, yawning

Yesterday, I did a round train trip to New York City, leaving home before 6 a.m. and returning home after 1 at night.

Today, we left D.C. in the evening and drove, apparently along with everyone else in the mid-Atlantic, north for the weekend. At least we had a baseball game to listen to. (Go, Nats!) We’re going to celebrate Dad’s birthday, Rudi’s going to do a bike ride, and then we’ll get back in the car and return home Sunday evening.

So, I guess I’d better get to sleep!

Mooning About

I would show you photos of our weekend, but it pretty much either involved sleeping off allergies on the couch or hanging out with a small young lady whose parents would prefer I not share her photo publicly.

Friday evening, we spent an hour at the local coffeeshop gathering the last of the daylight before heading back to our friends’ hotel for Chinese food and beers and homemade cookies.

Saturday was spent vegging, although I did manage to get a load of laundry done.

Today, Rudi and I hit the farmers market early on and then met up with John, Nicole, and Juliet for a trip to the zoo. We learned that zebras are very aggressive, saw baby gorillas and orangutans, and admired a false gharial’s teeth and toenails. We had a delicious al fresco dinner before spending the last of the waning daylight at the playground.

Rudi and I returned home just in time to watch the Nationals’ give up the go-ahead runs (we quickly turned off the tv, but the damage was done) in the third game of the NLDS playoffs. Fingers are crossed for a better outcome Tuesday.

And with that, the moon has set on yet another lovely weekend. Back to the workweek grind!

Dusk

We have plans to get together with our friends on Sunday, but tomorrow I’m going to lay low because I either have a massive allergy attack (ragweed is sky-high right now) or a severe cold (our friend’s kid is snuffly today, too, as is a coworker who’s been traveling) going on and am feeling kind of miserable.

So I’m off to bed with my box of tissues.
