baked goods, seasonal socks, and bedtime

Three beautiful things from my past week:
1. Pumpkin chocolate chip muffins, heavy on the latter.
2. I have enough Halloween-themed socks to wear a different pair every day for more than a week.
3. Sleeping in on the weekend, surrounded by cats.

comedy, practice, and no more

Sorry for a tardy Three Beautiful Things post. I had managed to lock myself out of my site and have had a tired, busy week that just wasn’t conducive to my getting back in. But, obviously, things are better now!
Three beautiful things from my past week:
1. We got to see Dylan Moran, who plays Bernard in Black Books, at the Lincoln last night.
2. My volleyball team got together to practice on Sunday, and while we still lost this week’s game, our playing was much improved.
3. This week’s debate was the final one for this election season.

sharing, seasonal drinks, and good sleeping weather

A day late, but still… Three beautiful things from my past week:
1. Because we found cider doughnuts on our drive home to D.C., we were able to pick up some to bring back to Sarah, who loves them as much as I do.
2. A cool evening means we make hot apple cider with fresh cinnamon sticks.
3. It’s nice to have chilly air for sleeping in, because it makes me want to snuggle underneath all the covers. With the windows open in our bedroom, we had perfect temperatures at my folks’ house.

Three beautiful things from my past week:
1. Apple picking with Rudi, Sarah, John, Nicole, and baby Juliet.
2. Wearing pants, wool socks, knee-highs, and a sweatshirt. (Obviously not all at once.)
3. Eating lunch outside with my book, beneath sunny skies.

Three beautiful things from the first week of fall:
1. Fallen ripe ginkgo fruit smell like dog poop, but remind me of college, where the trees lined the walkway to the administrative building. I work hard not to step on the ones splattered on the road and sidewalk nearby, but the scent takes me home.
2. An otherwise average young guy on the metro has a mustache that belongs on a strongman or a Tour de France cyclist from 1905. I’m certain that it makes him absolutely happy to sport such a silly facial adornment.
3. Our final ballgame of the year goes into a rain delay that looks to last the rest of the evening. Rudi and I, however, have nowhere else to be until that call is made, and the team puts other games from drier climes on the jumbo screen in the outfield to pass the time. In between those innings, the Nationals announcer plays pop songs that relate to rain or waiting.

new shows, evening color, and fall fruit

Three beautiful things from the final week of summer:
1. The fall season of tv started this week. The highlight of the new shows I’ve seen so far is Speechless, the Minnie Driver-fronted comedy about a family who regularly moves in order to find the best school and situation for their eldest child, who has cerebral palsy and uses a wheelchair and a speech board. Pilots aren’t usually the best way to judge a new series (they’re trying to introduce all their characters and do the elevator speech in 22 or 46 minutes), so I’ll probably stick with Pitch, Designated Survivor, and The Good Place for a few more episodes despite their flaws.
2. There have been some spectacular sunsets this week.
3. At the Tuesday farmers market, I buy my first apples of the season. So crisp!
