This weekend, I visited the House of Sweden, the Swedish and Icelandic embassies, which is down on the Potomac River in Georgetown. Their embassy has long been on my to-see list, so I’m glad I made it down there. As with the other Scandinavian embassies, its design takes its environment into account, and I could see how it would be an amazing place to work. I picked up a free Swedish cookbook, took part in a silent disco party (The color your headphone is glowing shows which of the three channels you’re listening to, so folks can still dance together. Also, Swedish house music is quite enjoyable), and ogled the rooftop views (click through and zoom in to actually see those) and the indoor\/outdoor water feature on the ground level.<\/p>\n

Since it was a hot and sunny day, I opted to stay down there and have a light, late lunch and read and knit with a river breeze to cool me.<\/p>\n

While I’d missed the funk parade, I knew there were still performances going on on U St. and in Shaw and their surrounding neighborhoods, so I bought myself an ice cream cone and meandered over there. I caught two performances — one a dj mixing classic funk records from the back of a truck and the second a Brazilian-style percussion group. I decided I wasn’t feeling up to dealing with indoor crowds, so I stopped for a grilled cheese on my way home instead.<\/p>\n

Sunday, I hit the farmers market early, both scoring Rudi some morels and missing the rain. I came back home and dozed and knit on the couch for a while before doing some chores. In the late afternoon, I decided I really did need to go plant my vegetables, so I moseyed down to the garden, where we have tons of strawberries waiting to turn red, where my peas have sprouted flowers, where my greens are growing vigorously, and where I harvested a full half of my sorrel in an attempt to gain some more sun for a shorter tomato plant I put nearby. Rudi joined me there, and I’m happy to report that all the plants are in the ground (I’m saving the potato planting for next weekend).<\/p>\n

Rudi made us springtime omelets for supper filled with the aforementioned morels and ramps, and asparagus, which we ate while watching the season finale of Timeless<\/em>. <\/p>\n

Bout of Books Day 2:<\/strong> <\/p>\n

On the first day of Bout of Books, I finished listening to the first part of Solo<\/em> by Kwame Alexander with Mary Rand Hess and started reading A Treacherous Curse<\/em> by Deanne Raybourn. <\/p>\n
