Folks, my friend Sarah, who comments here sometimes, lost her dad today after he suffered a sudden and massive stroke this morning.<\/p>\n

I’m sure she and her family would appreciate any good thoughts or prayers you can spare in the hard days to come.<\/p>\n

The Day the Tree Fell Down<\/strong>

crumbling. It died of old age,
\nI tell you, like a man. We wept.
\nWe had worn our time upon it, put
\nour arms around to touch fingertips
\nand we measured ourselves, our feelings
\non the years. We made our calculations
\npay, then. Now, the fears, age,
\ndaily mathematics. The tree held
\nthe green. Birds, squirrels, coons
\nmade memory there until the day it fell.
\nThey got out. It groaned for twenty minutes.
\nI tell you, it sighed as it bent,
\nits branches catching the dull fall,
\nthe soft turning in wet dissolution.
\nthe body lay exposed: a gut of grubs,
\na lust of hollowness. We wept,
