\"Mid-September<\/a><\/center><\/p>\n

I spent several hours down at the garden today, digging up fungi that had invaded from the wood chip mulch the garden uses to cover the pathways, weeding, planting some greens for the fall, and harvesting several pounds of produce (including a squash, a few more beans, and my very first cucumber ever).<\/p>\n

While there, I took some photos so you could see what’s still growing in the garden:

Did I tell you that a couple years back, we planted onions, but they never grew any bulbs, so we figured they were duds? And that this summer, we yanked out and tossed on the garden’s compost pile, whole handfuls of them? And that only after doing so did I chance to look at my seed packets to discover that we’d planted non-bulbous onions?<\/p>\n

We harvested a few of them, but they went to seed pretty soon after our belated realization. But they’re so pretty even as flowers that I can’t feel too bad about it.<\/p>\n

I admit I left the weeds I found decorative. I figured this late in the season they weren’t doing anyone any harm, and weeds only need to disappear if they aren’t pleasing me in one fashion or another.<\/p>\n

If the weather is consistent with previous years, I have another two months of good gardening weather ahead of me. And this year I’m thinking about trying to garden through the winter if it stays mild. Obviously another snowpocalypse
\nwould make the decision on my behalf.<\/p>\n
