This building, 2101 Connecticut Avenue, is a mile or so from my house. I can&#8217;t tell you how many times I&#8217;ve passed it in the six years I&#8217;ve lived in the area.<\/p>\n<p>Developed by Harry Bralove (who also built D.C.&#8217;s Omni Shoreham Hotel) and Edward Ernst and designed by George T. Santmyers, it&#8217;s a large, fancy, old apartment building built in 1927. So the building&#8217;s been there a good, long time. I&#8217;d seen it. But I&#8217;d never <em>seen<\/em> it. Until that day&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/spriteshoots\/3599927050\/\" title=\"2101 Connecticut Avenue by kkfea, on Flickr\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/farm4.static.flickr.com\/3309\/3599927050_991f41700b_m.jpg\" width=\"240\" height=\"180\" alt=\"2101 Connecticut Avenue\" \/><\/a><\/center><\/p>\n<p>&#8230;when I looked up.<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/spriteshoots\/3599116595\/\" title=\"2101 Connecticut Avenue's Roofline by kkfea, on Flickr\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/farm3.static.flickr.com\/2456\/3599116595_be433b0c21_m.jpg\" width=\"240\" height=\"180\" alt=\"2101 Connecticut Avenue's Roofline\" \/><\/a><\/center><br \/>\n<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>At first I thought they were aliens. Then maybe evil sorcerers dressed in Ali Babian outfits.<\/p>\n<p>But then I thought&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Are those&#8230;? Devil gargoyles.
