{"id":11447,"date":"2021-07-24T01:26:55","date_gmt":"2021-07-24T06:26:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.spritewrites.net\/?p=11447"},"modified":"2021-07-24T05:50:55","modified_gmt":"2021-07-24T10:50:55","slug":"feast-fit-for-an-emperor","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.spritewrites.net\/?p=11447","title":{"rendered":"feast fit for an emperor"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I decided at some past Olympics that it seemed only fitting to celebrate Opening and Closing Ceremonies with a nod to the host nation.<\/p>\n<p>With this year&#8217;s Olympics being held in Tokyo, that means Japanese, and D.C. did not leave me hanging. About eight blocks away from the Burrow is Hana Market, a tiny Japanese grocery (and one-time tourism agency). After work let out, I wandered over to pick up snacks to eat during tonight&#8217;s broadcast. While I have been to Hana before, it&#8217;s either been to pick up a specific ingredient or to buy a mochi to snack on. This time I took a less strategic approach and just picked up things that looked interesting.<\/p>\n<p>I came home with a bag of supplies, including:<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/spriteshoots\/51332316094\/in\/photostream\/\" title=\"Japanese Snacks\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/51332316094_fac6e1a450_w.jpg\" width=\"400\" height=\"225\" alt=\"Japanese Snacks\"><\/a><script async src=\"\/\/embedr.flickr.com\/assets\/client-code.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/center><\/p>\n<p>Peach caramel corn pops, seasoned seaweed, coffee-flavored black sesame candy (I missed the fact that they were coffee), matcha Kit Kats, chocolate stumps, roasted bean snacks, and chestnut mochi served as appetizers.<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/spriteshoots\/51330858382\/in\/photostream\/\" title=\"Tasty Mango Cream Soda\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/51330858382_7266cf3676_w.jpg\" width=\"225\" height=\"400\" alt=\"Tasty Mango Cream Soda\"><\/a><script async src=\"\/\/embedr.flickr.com\/assets\/client-code.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/center><\/p>\n<p>Mango creamy soda, which contains 0% juice, but does contain milk. I&#8217;d buy it again.<\/p>\n<p>We paused in our corner-store delights to have some actual dinner, picked up from the nearby Japanese restaurant, Sakana, that we&#8217;d never been to. Rudi ordered a roll and a sushi bento. While I considered an entree, I&#8217;ve rarely been to a Japanese restaurant that offered an entire section of vegetarian sushi\/maki, and that won out in the end:<\/p>\n<p><center><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/spriteshoots\/51332316034\/in\/photostream\/\" title=\"Veggie Sushi\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/51332316034_0c99be2279_w.jpg\" width=\"400\" height=\"225\" alt=\"Veggie Sushi\"><\/a><script async src=\"\/\/embedr.flickr.com\/assets\/client-code.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/center><\/p>\n<p>The roll at the top is tempura vegetables. The one on the right is ume shiso, or pickled plum. The one at the bottom left is kanpyo, or dried gourd.
