While I’m off working on my Olympic project (I’m on Row 27) and watching (wait for it) the Olympics, I offer you this knitting-related interview with the non-knitting member of the household<\/a>. I first saw it on Donna<\/a>‘s blog a few weeks ago and it has since popped up all over the knitting blogosphere:<\/p>\n

\"Sock<\/a>Me:<\/strong> What is your favorite thing about my knitting?
\nRudi:<\/strong> The consistency of your stitches.<\/p>\n

Me:<\/strong> What is your least favorite thing about my knitting?
\nRudi:<\/strong> How it can suck you into a mental vortex. That and the fact that the stash takes up a lot of room. But I shouldn’t be picky, says he of the bikes and skis.<\/p>\n

Me:<\/strong> What is something I have knitted, that you recall as good?
\nRudi:<\/strong> Where to begin on that… I would definitely say the … uh … the first pair of socks you knitted were impressive. And the latest pair of socks were really impressive. And that (flailing his arms in a pulling over the shoulder motion) shawl … thing.
\nMe:<\/strong> The shrug?
\nRudi:<\/strong> Yeah, that. I’m a guy; what do you expect…<\/p>\n

Me:<\/strong> Do you think knitters have an expensive hobby?
\nRudi:<\/strong> (grinning) Depends on the kind of yarn they get, doesn’t it?<\/p>\n

Me:<\/strong> Do you have any hobbies?
\nRudi:<\/strong> Uh, yeah.
\nMe:<\/strong> Would you care to elaborate?
\nRudi:<\/strong> Road biking, alpine skiing, collecting way too much music, dabbling in politics and computers.<\/p>\n

Me:<\/strong> So, if we compared money\/time spent on hobbies, who would win?
\nRudi:<\/strong> I, I think…. I don’t know. Our hours don’t overlap too often. I’m sure you would say I would win and I would you say you would win.<\/p>\n

Me:<\/strong> Do you have a stash of any kind?
\nRudi:<\/strong> Music would be about as close as it gets. Spare bike tubes. Nothing compared to what you have.
\nMe:<\/strong> So you wouldn’t say that the old bike frame and the spare wheels and the old seat in the closet are a stash?
\nRudi:<\/strong> Okay, they’re a stash. Touch\u00c3\u00a9.<\/p>\n

Me:<\/strong> Have I ever embarrassed you, knitting in public?
\nRudi:<\/strong> No.<\/p>\n

Me:<\/strong> Do you know my favorite kind of yarn?
\nRudi:<\/strong> Your favorite kind of yarn probably has something to do with alpaca. Probably an alpaca-silk blend of some sort. [Mmmm… That would be lovely…]<\/p>\n

Me:<\/strong> Can you name another knitting blog?
\nRudi:<\/strong> Probably a few. Ravelry<\/a> isn’t a blog; it’s more of a meta site… Wendy Knits<\/a>. The Yarn Harlot<\/a>. Purling Sprite<\/a>.
\nMe:<\/strong> Very good.
\nRudi:<\/strong> Those are the three that come to mind quickly.<\/p>\n

Me:<\/strong> Do you mind my wanting to stop at yarn shops wherever we go?
\nRudi:<\/strong> No.<\/p>\n

Me:<\/strong> Do you understand the importance of a swatch?
\nRudi:<\/strong> Oh, hell, yeah.<\/p>\n

Me:<\/strong> Do you read Sprite Writes?
\nRudi:<\/strong> Yeah.<\/p>\n

Me:<\/strong> Have you ever left a comment?
\nRudi:<\/strong> Yeah.<\/p>\n

Me:<\/strong> Do you think the house would be cleaner if I didn’t knit?
\nRudi:<\/strong> Probably not. [He’s right.]<\/p>\n

Me:<\/strong> Anything you’d like to add?
