Today’s Top Ten Tuesday topic at That Artsy Reader Girl is Top Ten Books That Should be Adapted into Netflix Shows\/Movies<\/a>.<\/p>\n

With one glaring exception, I am opting not to include anything that, to my knowledge, has already been adapted, even if I haven’t yet seen it (the Cormoran Strike series and The Last Dragonslayer<\/em>, for instance). By and large, I’ve also excluded novels I absolutely adore, because they’ll just never be done well enough to suit me (the Lady Sherlock series, The Night Circus<\/em>, Thursday Next, and others).<\/p>\n

  1. Pumpkinheads<\/em> by Rainbow Rowell and Faith Erin Hicks<\/strong> (imagine how adorable this graphic novel would be as a Halloween romance!)<\/li>\n

    <\/p>\n

  2. Pride and Prejudice<\/em> by Jane Austen<\/strong> (because as much as I love the BBC version and like the other versions, there is always room for another adaptation)<\/li>\n

    <\/p>\n

  3. Two Boys Kissing<\/em> by David Levithan<\/strong> (sweet but also serious — think of all the famous gay people they could get to be the chorus!)<\/li>\n

    <\/p>\n

  4. The Marvels<\/em> by Brian Selznick<\/strong> (of his three illustrated novels, I think this is the one that would scale best to the small screen)<\/li>\n

    <\/p>\n

  5. Killers of the Flower Moon<\/em> by David Grann<\/strong> (a documentary obviously)<\/li>\n

    <\/p>\n

  6. The Vanderbeekers of 141st Street<\/em> by Karina Yan Glaser<\/strong> (this and its sequels are just begging to be turned into an ongoing family tv series)<\/li>\n

    <\/p>\n

  7. Moxie<\/em> by Jennifer Mathieu<\/strong> (I think someone (Reese Witherspoon, maybe?) is adapting this feminist YA novel to film and I want it NOW)<\/li>\n

    <\/p>\n

  8. The Port Chicago 50<\/em> by Steve Sheinkin<\/strong> (another documentary — I don’t know why I think that nonfiction that makes me furious should be adapted, except that I guess I want more people to be angry, too)<\/li>\n

    <\/p>\n

  9. The Great Greene Heist<\/em> by Varian Johnson <\/strong>(a multicultural middle-grade caper — this is just waiting for someone to option it)<\/li>\n

    <\/p>\n

  10. The Thirteenth Tale<\/em> by Diane Setterfield<\/strong> (how has Masterpiece not grabbed this gothic mystery as an adaptation already?)<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Come back another day and I could probably give you a completely different list. I could probably give you a week’s worth of Christmas books that should be adapted…<\/p>\n
