As you know, I was a first-round judge of realistic young adult fiction for the Cybils last fall. Our panel cumulatively read nearly 200 books and passed along our consensus of the top seven among them to the shortlist panel. They had the challenging assignment of picking a sole winner among that group, a task that seems herculean to me.

Narrow it down they did, however, and tonight the winner was unveiled:

Me and Earl and the Dying Girl!

Congratulations to Jesse Andrews, for writing such a great book!

Other notable (to me) winners were Wonder (middle grade realistic fiction), which I loved when I read it last month, and The False Prince (middle grade fantasy/science fiction) and Seraphena (young adult fantasy/science fiction), neither of which I’ve yet had the pleasure to read. You can check out the winners of all the categories here.

Congratulations to all the winners! And a thank you to all Cybils panelists and organizers, who, I can say from experience, worked their tails off to bring you these awards.
