three monthly resolutions
posted by soe 2:08 am

I’m appallingly bad at keeping annual resolutions, be they public or private, so instead this year I’m going to try something different: I’ve decided that I’m going to try to accomplish three things each month. If something is working but requires additional reinforcement, it can be carried over to another month, but if something isn’t working or has been accomplished, let’s cross it off the list and work on something else.

For January, my three goals are:

  1. Do not buy hot drinks in disposable cups. I am guilty of running out to the local coffee shop for a cup of tea when I’m lacking teabags at work, and the waste that creates is not insignificant. I will take ingredients to make hot beverages into the office and will also bring in a travel mug, for those instances when I truly am out of luck in scrounging anything to flavor my hot water and need to seek outside assistance.
  2. Attend a Tuesday night swing class/dance. We’ve talked about going dancing regularly for years, but rarely move anything but our lips. They hold weekly dances nearby, and I have eschewed volleyball for the next couple months in favor of a weekly date night with Rudi. Let’s start out right by getting to at least one this month.
  3. Get my reader card for the Library of Congress. I was supposed to do this last year and got only as far as filling out the pre-registration form. I will get my butt over to the Hill and pick it up sometime this month.

How about you? Do you make resolutions or goals for yourself? Are you any good at keeping them?

Those are great goals. I was thinking about the coffee cup dilemma this morning as I only have a 10 oz to go cup and that wasn’t cutting it. I need to upgrade.

Great to have monthly goals, very laudable! My girlfriend keeps trying to persuade me to take up swing!

I got my Library of Congress card on vacation once, as a fun souvenir… and then ended up living there years later.

That’s a great idea, to keep monthly resolutions. It’s more manageable and concrete. Glad I found your blog through the Mother Reader comment challenge.

I love your list of goals. I’m a Californian & don’t get to Washington DC much, but when I do the Library of Congress is one of my alltime favorite stops. My #1 trip keepsake is my Library of Congress library card. May you have many fine dance nights while drinking from your travel mug!

How are the January goals coming? I just made my goals for 2013 this week and I’m trying to work on them a little each day and also just read over them daily to stay on the right path.

Once you start carrying a travel mug around, it’s easy. I never leave home without my water bottle and mug(if I plan to get coffee). I have learned which coffee shops have their own mugs and will opt for them, too.

Honestly, it’s just such a part of how I operate now, I feel weird if I don’t bring them.

I hope you don’t mind my boldness here… would you consider changing your background color? The black on green is very hard to read.

I hear you on the disposable cups…I have my latest plastic lid at work, and really do mean to wash it off and keep using it, which would make me feel somewhat better…
