Attorney General Dick Blumental has given his formal legal opinion. He says the bill is clear about not allowing same sex couples to wed and that a DOMA addition is absolutely unnecessary.

Blumenthal has historically been on the wrong side of the gay rights issues he has confronted. About 10-15 years ago he rigorously defended the University of Connecticut Law School’s right to deny its lesbian and gay students equal employment opportunity. When the military wanted on campus to recruit for JAG’s, pre don’t ask don’t tell Blumenthal was zealous in their defense against students who wanted them off cmapus.
Opposing gay marriage is consistant with his beliefs. I don’t care how many posh gay fundraisers he attends — his actions speak louder than his willingness to be fed fine canapes.
