the jag

Do you ever get into jags with your hobbies? Periods where you just spend hours and hours doing the same thing?

I’ve been on a reading kick recently and have been finishing books left and right. I get home from work and head to the bedroom to curl up with my latest novel. It’s not a bad thing (although Rudi might disagree), but it’s just odd.

Sometimes, I feel that way about knitting, too. I can feel a knitting jag off in the wings, waiting its turn. Right now, it’s just manifesting itself in a strong desire to wind yarn for upcoming projects, but I know that one day soon it’s going to elbow its way to the front and demand I pick up the needles and start casting things on.

How about you? Do you have obsessive relationships with your hobbies, too?

It’s tough when you have too many hobbies to fit them all into your schedule!

Currently, playing Rock Band has taken a bold position in the center of the stage. It’s a video game, and a social party game, and music. Yet it doesn’t leave me time to play all my other video games, or time (or energy) to have people over for board games, and it’s lacking a tiny something that playing a real musical instrument would satisfy.

My kindle has helped me get even more voracious about reading. Whenever I finish something, there’s always something new readily available.

How did you do with the tweed costume? We have a couple of vintage clothing stores that I would try if I had to find something like that. Church thrift shops might have something too. I’m dying to hear if you liked the ride! It sounds like a very cool club. I’d love to do something like that.

As for hobbies, I do get obsessed about something for a bit, and switch off. Last year it was genealogy, and I haven’t done as much of that lately because I’ve been writing. But I’m always reading or knitting something here or there, because I’d be miserable if I didn’t. (And also swallowed by the books and the yarn piling up).

There aren’t enough hours in the day! 🙂
