my d.c.: holiday market
posted by soe 4:16 pm

This is the annual holiday market that D.C. holds downtown. They invite local artisans, musicians, and food vendors to set up shop in little booths outside the National Portrait Gallery during the weeks leading up to Christmas. Some vendors sign up for the whole time, but others filter in and out, so each time you go you find different things.

This is wonderful! I don’t remember hearing about it. Is it new since we left?

Since you guys don’t have access to my phone conversations with Mum, I’ll answer here as well. The market started four or five years ago. The first year was in the parking lot where the old convention center used to be. Then it moved to its current location either last year or the year before.

That’s very cool! I’d like a market like that here.

Looks great! Love finding unique little items at markets like that.

Sarah, it is cool. A lot of the vendors are regulars at other local arts markets, but it’s nice to see them exposed to a larger crowd.

Ari, yeah, you definitely find some beautiful stuff when you get out to the markets.
