Happy Monday! Happy December 14th! Should you be lucky enough to be reading this from South America, Happy Solar Eclipse!

This weekend, the weather was more like October than December, which allowed me to get out and take some photos from the neighborhoods near my apartment. One of the best things about living in a city is getting to peek (literally, but in a non-pervy way) into people’s lives. I can see who has tons of artwork on their walls and who has built-in bookshelves. Who leans classic in their decorating style and who is more whimsical. Who uses their yard or balcony. Who has put up holiday decorations, and how extensive they are.

Since I am your host again today, I thought I’d share with you how one house in particular has decorated for the holidays. First, a little scene-setting. Dupont Circle has, historically, been a gay-friendly neighborhood. In the two decades we’ve lived here, it’s gotten more upscale, which means that some of its … campier … aspects have gone away outside of Pride Month. But not all, as these pictures of one house will show.

Without further prelude, may I present the Barbie House of Dupont Circle?

The owners of this house have the Barbie party up year-round and adjust their activities for the time of year. They are patriotic at July 4th and spooky at Halloween and living their best rainbow lives in June.

Back in the spring, the Barbies were wearing masks and boxing the coronavirus. They were confident we’d beat this thing if we just did the right thing.

Now, though, they’re clearly living in a bubble, because there are no masks to be seen. But none of them are dressed for traveling, so they’re obviously working on getting some holiday decorations up.

The Kens have clearly just finishing putting on a holiday spectacular. I cannot begin to imagine what the skit was that required one to dress in cleats, but it’s really best not to ask questions about this kind of show.

However you’re choosing to celebrate, I hope you are safe and have a good time. And may you find the whimsy in your everyday.

This is pretty funny! I do think people are being extra creative this year – and I thank them for it.

I am reminded that one of my favorite Easter traditions is the Post’s Peeps contest.

How adorably quirky! I bet it brightens the day of everyone who walks past.
